Overview

Compensation

  • Starting Salary: $83,824 – $100,000 annually

  • Based on four 12-hour shifts per week (48 hours), equating to $31.00 – $37.01 per hour.

  • Pay at hire is determined by verified prior EMS, Paramedic, and SCT/CC experience.

  • Paramedic Sign-On/Retention Bonus: $10,000* paid over two years in quarterly installments.

  • Weekend Shift Differential: Additional $2.00/hour for shifts Friday night through Monday morning.

  • Position is located in the Capital Region of New York (including Albany, Schenectady, Cohoes, and Saratoga Springs).


Summary

The EMT-Paramedic serves as a representative of Mohawk Ambulance Service and performs pre-hospital emergency care under general supervision. Acting independently when required, the employee uses standard EMS methods to assess situations, determine patient needs, and implement appropriate care.

This position also requires active participation in safety monitoring, incident reporting, and teamwork to support smooth operations and employee safety throughout each shift.


Essential Functions

  • Arrive prepared, fit for duty, and free of impairments affecting performance.

  • Perform EMT-B and AEMT skills with proficiency, including Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS).

  • Operate cardiac monitors/defibrillators and administer IV drugs and fluids safely.

  • Respond to dispatched calls, including driving ambulances safely under varying road and weather conditions.

  • Assess scene safety, gain patient access, and evaluate medical condition or injury severity.

  • Monitor vital signs and overall patient status; adjust care as needed.

  • Assist in lifting, moving, and securing patients into ambulances.

  • Document patient condition, care provided, and any relevant observations accurately, both verbally and in writing.

  • Maintain and inspect ambulance, equipment, and supplies, addressing issues within capability.

  • Follow company operational policies and standard EMS procedures.

  • Communicate effectively with dispatchers, other agencies, and healthcare facilities.


Representative Duties

  • Relay operational issues with crew, vehicle, or equipment to the Shift Leader.

  • Receive and report complaints or concerns from agencies, patients, or families.

  • Ensure compliance with all documentation and reporting requirements.

  • Collaborate with other EMS providers to determine appropriate patient care.


Qualifications

  • Current NYS AEMT-Paramedic certification required.

  • Skilled in EMT-B and AEMT intermediate procedures.

  • Knowledge of ACLS and BTLS standards.

  • Competent in using cardiac monitors, defibrillators, and IV administration.

  • Must hold and maintain a Class D NYS Driver License or equivalent, with no suspensions or revocations and deemed insurable.

  • Flexible availability for nights and weekends.

  • Ability to lift, carry, and balance up to 125 lbs independently, or 250 lbs with assistance.

  • Strong communication, patient interview, and documentation skills.

  • Must be at least 18 years old prior to the scheduled written certification exam.
