Position Overview:

The Medical Assistant plays a key role in supporting patient care within specialty clinics, working under the guidance of the Office Manager and/or physicians. This position is responsible for maintaining clinical supplies, delivering direct patient care, and assisting with administrative tasks to ensure smooth clinic operations. The role also provides support to Customer Service Representatives, including scheduling, filing, and answering phone calls. Flexibility, adaptability, and a willingness to acquire new skills are essential as responsibilities may change to meet clinic needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and assist patients during exams and procedures.

  • Take vital signs and assist with patient assessments as directed.

  • Maintain, clean, and restock medical supplies and exam rooms.

  • Support administrative duties, including scheduling appointments, filing records, and organizing patient charts.

  • Answer and route incoming phone calls professionally and efficiently.

  • Collaborate with clinic staff to ensure a seamless patient experience.

  • Adapt to changing priorities and learn new skills as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment.

  • Independent judgment and initiative when handling duties.

Licenses & Certifications:

Candidates must meet one of the following:

  1. Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program or completion of an equivalent training program, such as:

    • Active certification/registration from AAMA, AMCA, AMT, NHA, NCCT, or NAHP

    • Military Medical Specialist Course graduate

    • Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), EMT, or Paramedic certification

AND

  1. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Prior experience as a Medical Assistant is preferred.

  • Bilingual skills are a plus.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and patient care procedures required.

  • Computer literacy and experience with electronic records preferred.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:

  • Frequent standing and walking throughout the clinic.

  • Ability to lift or move patients and equipment, up to 50 pounds occasionally.

  • Normal or corrected vision and hearing required.

  • Occasional long shifts and exposure to infectious materials possible.

  • Ability to operate medical equipment and perform clerical duties efficiently.

  • Work occurs primarily indoors in a dynamic clinical setting.
