Position Overview

The Medical Assistant provides both clinical and administrative support to patients, working under the guidance of a licensed Provider or Nurse. This role ensures efficient patient care while maintaining compliance with healthcare protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for exams by recording vital signs, performing phlebotomy when necessary, and administering medications as directed according to established policies.

  • Gather and document patient information that aids in care planning, assessments, and discharge procedures, under the supervision of a Licensed Nurse.

  • Collect, handle, and submit laboratory specimens following organizational guidelines.

  • Communicate relevant patient information to Providers and Nurses using appropriate documentation and communication methods.

  • Accurately record patient care activities in the EPIC system or other electronic medical records.

  • Manage front-line patient interactions including scheduling appointments, checking in and out patients, collecting co-payments, and tracking patient flow.

  • Perform department-specific clinical procedures such as point-of-care testing (POCT), hearing and vision screenings, or other required clinical tasks.

  • Support general office functions including faxing, copying, filing, and organizing paperwork as needed.

  • Maintain clean, stocked, and organized examination rooms.

  • Foster positive relationships with patients, families, and healthcare team members.

  • Follow safety and infection control protocols to ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited Medical Assistant, EMT, or Paramedic program is required.

  • Certification: BLS certification from the American Heart Association required; Medical Assistant certification preferred.

  • Experience: No prior experience required, though previous work in a healthcare setting is a plus.

  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with medical terminology and electronic medical records (EPIC preferred); proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel) is required.

  • Abilities: Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills; ability to maintain professionalism and attention to detail; capable of performing clinical tasks safely and effectively.
